Wordshop is series of weekly lectures on craft that take place at 6:30pm before the Urbana Poetry Slam held held the Bowery Poetry Club. National touring poets who are the featured readers at the Poetry Slam give a talk on poetry.

Speakers have addressed a range of issues including humor and eroticism in poetry and have included National Poetry Slam Champion, Mike McGee; Jennifer Knox, whose poetry has appeared three times in the “Best of American Poetry,” series; Sarah Lawerence professor, Jeff McDaniel who spoke on the work of W.S. Merwin, in particular his poems from 1960-70, and National Book Award nominee, Kim Addonizio who spoke on “White-Hot Heat and Necessary Coldness: handling emotion in poetry.”
