World of Poetry: This series allows the community to hear poetry from around the world both in its native language and in translation as read by the translator. Nepali, Slovenian, Haitian Creole, Russian, French, and Chinese poetry are just a few of the languages and cultures recently represented. This year we have begun including our American Sign Language readings under the World of Poetry banner. ASL poets use a gestural style that sends dance and theater flying back to their original roots as poetry. BAS hosts an ASL poetry event at the Bowery Poetry Club every fourth Thursday of the month, 5:30 to 7pm.
